I haven't had to do mine yet in my '00 but might I suggest, no matter what advice anyone gives you have some kind of service manual on hand before you start. From what I gather, it pretty much involves taking the whole dash apart.

Good Luck.

I did it in my 98 Dak and the entire dash (and i mean the whole thing had to come off and even then it was brutal to get the box open that the heater core was in....i would not do it again, i would get a small 12 v dashboard heater. you are in for a rough ride here eoj.

Bucket after you took out the whole dash could you leave the heater box in place and just take the cover off of it and drop the new core in? Or did you have to un bolt that out as well?

No you can leave the box in place and just take the cover off but even though the dash is out its still very very hard to get to the like 16 bolts that hold the cover in place, the dash was one thing but the cover....wow that was hard.

I got by for quite a while using that metallic radiator sealant. It would seal the heater core leak real good until i romped the on the gas then i could hear the seal break loose and rattle around in the heater core and sure enough it would start leaking again, finally i manned up enough to tackle it, it was one of the most frustrating repairs i've done. Next time i will bypass the heater core.
