 Subject: water pump inlet tube??

I just installed a new water pump in my '99 v6.4x4. I could not get the inlet tube off the old pump so i got a new one, but for the life of me I can not get it in the new pump! There are no threads on the tube just a bracket and an o-ring and no threads on the new water pump. the tube has a 35 degreee bend in it (about)
Any help would be great

if the tube doesn't match up to the new pump then either you have the wrong pump or tube
does the new pump match the old one?
does the new tube match the tube in old pump?

Yeah everything is the same. It's a close fit, real close. just doesn't want to fit together. the tube seems like it just pushes into the pump, but i can't get it to go.
