Subject: Surging RPM, not the TPS IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2002 Dakota Quad Cab, 4.7L V-8 automatic. I had a problem with the rpm's surging at idle (sometimes up to 2,000 in the mornings). I changed the TPS, which immediately fixed the problem. Everything ran great for about two weeks. Then yesterday while driving down the highway the RPM's surged. It happened probably 3 or 4 times over a 30 minute period. At first I thought I had a transmission issue because they would surge to 3,000 but my speed didn't increase; it felt like the transmission was bogged down. The rest of the drive the accelerations felt sluggish, not smooth at all. I got a P0123, and P0121. I noticed that if I wiggle on the connector going to the TPS the rpm's surge. I also noticed that same day that my cruise control won't engage (it previously worked fine). I suspect either a bad PCM or a back wire but would appreciate anyone with some experience to weigh in on this. Thanks!
