Message: DONT TURN YOUR RIDE IN!!!!! so i have HEARD from a buddy of mine that works at a dodge dealership. is that what they do with these clunkers is pretty much put gas in the oil, which locks up the motor then they crush it so it can never be used again. the reason they are doing this is because if you sell your car to another person your ozone killer is still on the road. they want to take it off the road then replace it with a more efficient vehicle... its their way of eliminating the true gasoline motors and thinning them out so hybrids and electrics can actually have an effect on the environment by not polluting it. but us handing off our ozone killers to someone else keeps them on the road wich is what they dont want.
sorry about writing a short book but once again this is what i heard and is not fact.
i was just wondering what everyone thought...let your opinions fly...stay on topic please, i beg you, lol

Message: I don't see any reason to believe they would go through the trouble of putting gas in the oil. Nor does the replacement need to be electric or hybrid to qualify. The only truth I see is that, yes, the intent is to get some older, less fuel efficient cars off the road. This was their stated intent, along with helping the automakers move some cars to help the economy. Sounds like some idiot is trying to make the program sound subversive. Sometimes the best way to find the truth is to just stop and think, if what people are saying makes any sense or not. Who is going to waste time or money to dump gas in the oil ? Also, EPA would not condone that.
Perhaps a better thing to consider would be whether or not the taxpayer is getting good value for their tax money in this stimulus program. Many don't think so.

Message: Another government 'cure all' that was not thought thru. They're intent was to get the bigger daily drivers to be traded in. Instead, good ol' American 'beat the system' enginuity trumped lawmakers. Vehicles being turned in are the ones owners couldn't sell...Vehicles that wouldn't bring $1,200 in the local paper, rusted out `86 full size vans, (passed on) Aunt Mays `84 LaSabre setting off the side of the driveway for the last three years, the 3rd hand SUVs that Jr. and Sis were driving to band practice twice a week. In turn, Mom or Dad got a new car with a BIG discount, courtesy of Uncle Sugar and Jr. or Sis upgraded to Mom or Dads 4 year old ride...cause it's still kinda new, is still kinda big and safer.
How did these transactions help the environment/ economy? Well, they got the eye-sore out of the driveway, but that's about it for the environment. Now the charities that accept them as tax wright-offs won't benefit. The auto recycler won't be able to buy it and sell off parts...because it has been crushed whole. The used car market prices are going to see a rise in prices because there will be a reduction on used 'drivable' cars being turned in since that is what Jr. and Sis are now rollin' in.
The folks who benefited from this? The ones who had an old 'guzzler' and had the gov't give them 2-4 times it's value to put towards a new car. People in the auto industry get a temporary benefit as more business is generated their way...which only lasts until the 'government surplus cheese' (money) runs out...Which again, will be soon...including the recent $2B bump up. Sad thing is, a lot of those able to take advantage of this are not always the ones who really 'need' to be in a newer car.
Party on, Garth.

Message: If dealers around the country are doing what they're doing here it's a wonder they can sell anything. Bro-in-law is looking for another work truck. A few months ago they were advertising full size x-cab trucks w/ V8 for about $19k. since the C.A.R.S. program kicked in he can't find one under $26k.
Another thing that might happen is, with all these people using this program, what if their credit was borderline and they get laid off and lose their jobs and can't make their new car payments? Is the government going to buy these vehicles back?

Message: Same thing here. Manufacturers seem to have dropped their incentives since this started. I did better than that by 2 grand on my new Ram before this government deal and got to keep my Dakota.

Message: i know i dont want to see all of our "clunkers" disapear. i appreciate the old gas guzzlers. they are way safer, bigger, tow more, and well they feel like a real car/tuck instead of a plastic toy. all i was saying is that its a shame to all of yesterdays rides just disappearing instead of being maintained and driven...besides most of the new cars are ugly anyways.

Message: *liquid glass* not oil in the gastank or gas on the oil pan.
This is what you expect when people rely on the socializm in order to buy a new car. What would you expect Mario.
Sure I'm shocked to. You would thank that they could at least resale a 03 Tahoe and the gov't would get there 4500 back in the resale.

Message: This is kind of crazy, they are going to take a few good useable cars off the road, and that is suppose to help our enviorment and save gas. Has anyone thought about all the gas that will be saved? If you were buying 20 gallons a week then go to say 15, then the government will lose the gas tax on that 5 gallons that isn't being bought. Now times that by say 1,000,000 now we are talking just a bit of money in gas tax being lost by the government, so that means they will come up with another tax to cover the lost revenew. I can feel it coming already!
I am so glad I write letters to my congresman, and senators, like they really give a hoot. Well, my congressman does answer my questions, but my senators, just tell me to sit down and shut up!! And they keep getting re-elected. Oh well, so goes our country. I will never vote for a Demacrat, but the republicans aren't much better.
Have a good day

Message: heres something that a lot of people dont know. i am currently enrolled in a hybrid class through my college. and my proffesor was telling us how there are so many dangerous chemicals in the hybrids batteries that have yet to discover or decide on how to dispose of them. so that means that there are already over 2,000 warehouses FULL of hybrid batteries that had faults and or were replaced under warranty. so my point is since they are "saving the environment" what the F.U.C.K are they gonna do with all the batteries????

Message: some dealerships are not pouring gas into the engine
rather glass or "liquid glass"
and yes, they do destroy the clunkers
some dealerships were pouring sodium silicate into the oil and starting the engine and letting it run until is seizes up
