Subject: Power Steering Pulley Problem IP: Logged
Message: I just bought a 91 Dakota. It had a rough life before I got it so Im trying to give it some tlc. It is 4x2 with a 5.2. I assume the a/c died because the compressor is missing. I dont know if it is from that or what but the pulley is bent. It works but wabbles and squeaks like crazy. I have tried to get a new pulley but I cant find the right one anywhere. I am assuming the one I keep finding is for a v6. I did just buy one from a place that said it came from a 91 with a 5.2. I open the box and find the same old wrong pulley. The one I have is almost flat with almost no off set. The wrong one the pulley is set back behind where it rides on the pump shaft. Dealers cant find anything due to age of the truck. Discontinued I am told. Has anyone had this trouble? Or has anyone seen this other pulley I have? Please email me if you think you can help. Big01_dram@yahoo.com Thanks for your help.

Message: Isn't it a shame that 'American' brands stop providing parts once your rig reaches 10 years or older? I can go to the Toyota dealer and still get parts for rigs build in the 80s! And they wonder why people don't always 'Buy American'. 'Stealerships'...I suppose if you brought it to them and asked that they fix it, they would say, "We can't". ??? HA
Enough ranting.
Have you tried the auto parts stores? NAPA, Kragan, Autozone, etc? You may not get lucky with a pulley but they may have, or be able to order a complete rebuilt pump assembly (hopefully with pulley). If yours is bent...and has been run a while, you may have damage to the pump shaft as well. I know this may run you more than you were hoping, but it would get you back up and running.

Message: Hey Josh
You should check that power steering pump out really good. The problems you are having and listed could also be a worn bearing &/or pump.
