Message: If I replace a 3.9L v6 with a 5.2L v8 do I need the transmission from the v8?

Message: Step 1. Find out what transmission came with the 3.9.
Step 2. Find out what transmission came with the 5.2.
Are they the same?
If yes, keep 3.9 transmission.
If no, get 5.2 transmission.
See. Not so hard.

Message: The 3.9 trans will bolt to the 5.2, the problem is, it may not hold up to the extra power the V8 makes.
Good Luck

daddio- right now ive got a 1993 automatic, but the engine is from a 1995 Ram. I believe those are compatible. Not sure what the transmission from the Ram was, but im thinking about putting in a manual as long as im going to be changing it anyway. Anything complicated about that, aside from the obvious clutch pedal and shifter install?

Message: If the Ram is a manual all the better. Just find a donor Dak for the pedals and hydraulic clutxh release system.

Message: The pedals shouldnt be a problem, theres a Pick-a-Part a few miles from here :-)
Still not sure about the Ram's tranny though.. Ive emailed the guy selling the engine about it, but he hasnt replied

Message: If you want to go manual look for an NV3500 5spd. Back around your Dak's year they used an AX-15 behind the V6's and the NV3500 behind the V8's. From what I've read the AX-15 won't last long behind a V8. Later on, I think around '98 or so they started using the NV3500 behind the V6's also. Not sure on the year though. I know my '00 V6 has one.

Ive been trying to find model numbers for things like this but google isnt very helpful with that kind of thing.
One more thing, if the 5.2 engine was hooked to an automatic and i put in a 5 speed will i need to replace the ECU as well?

Not sure on this but I would err on the side of caution and say yes, get a PCM from a manual truck.

Message: If you have to ask that question are you sure you're up to the
job? Try finding a wrecked V8 truck for a donor. That way you
should have all the parts you should need.
