Subject: Field wire from alternator to V.R. broke IP: Logged
Message: Hi, one of the wires from the one of the field terminals going from the alternator to the voltage regulator broke on my 1987 carbureted V6.
The only adverse condition that I experienced is that the battery would not charge while driving. I just found the problem and fixed it. I am concerned about any possible damage to either the voltage regulator or the alternator resulting from this broken wire. At present, I have everything that it takes to check the V.R. and the alternator except the will. Between work and keeping this truck running, I am just not up to it at the moment.
Can anyone offer any insight into what happens under this condition?
Thanks,
Jack

Message: Yep. Those alternators are made in Japan.
Can't hurt 'em.
