Okay,
So my truck is making no noises and has no leaks. However my problem does get a little easier with heat but not gone. While turning it is unstable...meaning it will be hard to turn then break loose then be hard again like the power steering is cutting in and out. I am assuming that my rack and pinion is bad. I just want to make sure before I purchase a new one to find it is the pump or something.
Also, since there is no leak or noise could it be just clogged or something? Do you think a flush could stop the problem, the ps fluid does smell burnt... 02 4x4 62000.

Check out the intermediate steering shaft linkages. They're known to be a problem from what I've read. I had a similar problem about a year ago on my 03. I lubed up the linkages thinking it might help in the short term, which it did, and it's been fine since.

intermediate steering linkage shot......
greased up and as good as new, still ordering a new one though because she is corroded pretty bad

found them on ebay 150 ish shipped. My local mechanic said he has to pay 300+ for them as you can only get them from dodge....
The ebay people are dodge dealerships, it is also the revised version with the larger beefier ujoints. He had the truck no longer than an hour before he called me back so it cant be to hard to get into it.
