Subject: WIDEST TIRES possible on a Dakota?
IP: Logged

Message:
What is the widest tires that I can mount on my R/T rims? I know alot of people run a 275 series, but I have heard of people even going up to a 305 in a BFG a while back? Anyone have any tire expertise?? Id also like to know what the tallest overall height you can put on a 4x4 dakota, a stock dakota, and R/T dakota, a hotchkis dakota, and any other lowering kit.

Thanks for any help you can give me!

Well so far I was told a 275 will work for sure, and a 29" high will run on a stock R/T. Can anyone help me with any of these questions?

The Camaro SS has 17x9 rims also and runs a 275/40-17. However, the folks at T-Byrne Motorsports have run 315/35-17 Drag Radials on theirs with no failures. They do not recommend it for regular use. Most tire stores wouldn't attempt that. With a taller profile (50-55 series) 285 should work fine, 305 is again pushing it. You are safe with 275's.

I have a 2004 Stampede. How do i go about finding what the widest possible tires are that won't clip the fenders in full turns? I am planning on getting 18' wheels but don't know what tire to get. Thanks.
