Message: I know that this isn't exactly answering your question, but I think that I may have a useful suggestion, if you don't mind some minor fab work. (If not for you, then at least for others). I swapped engines in my '96 dak last year, and I decided to go the elec. fan route. I looked at alot of parts catalogs (summit, jegs, etc.)and found that most any fan was alot more than I cared to spend. So, I went to my local junk yard and bought a pair of fans from a 3rd gen taurus (I knew I could sqeeze both onto my radiator) for $20. I then fabbed a radiator shroud out of a sheet of aluminum I had laying around, and installed the shroud and fans as a unit onto the radiator. I then installed a thermostatically controlled switch from summit (~$40-$60). With only the one fan running, I can do street travelling without having to worry about my truck coming even close to overheating. Whenever I'm offroad, I just switch the second fan on, and the temp never goes above halfway.
So, when all said and done, I spent under $100 and have a pair of electric fans that will keep my engine cool under ANY conditions!
As a side note, if anybody does use the fans from a 3rd gen taurus, the fans are two different sizes, so when you cut the holes in the shroud you make, be sure to measure two different diameter holes!!
