Subject: Running warm IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2000 4.7l 2wd auto dakota. About 8 months ago I had a PCM failure and had to get a new computer. Before the old computer went belly up my truck would run at the 190 degree range all day long unless it was 90 degrees plus outside and then it would get up to 200-210. With the new computer my truck runs at the 200-210 range constantly and have yet to have it in any real warm weather, it was 75 degrees today and while sitting at idle the truck got to around 215 before it settled back down to 200. Is the new higher running temp something that I should worry about or could it just be the programming inside of the new PCM?? Thanks for any help/advice!!

Message: I will do that, thanks!! The weird thing is though that this started the same exact day that I put the new PCM in. Could be a crazy coincidence I guess. Is there a factory program that this thing has installed that could cause it to warm up a bit more?? I know that the temp is really controlled by the T Stat, just trying to figure it out!! Thanks!!

Message: i doubt its from the pcm
only way that could happen is if they messed with the timing tables
give us an update
if the sending unit doesn't do it
might be time to think about a flush
and new T-stat

Message: Sorry, no update yet. Havent had any time to tinker with it. But today it was up in the mid 80's and it was steady at the 210 mark in heavy traffic. When I was able to drive full speed (60-70 freeway) the temp would go back down to about 200 or so. When I got home I let it idle in the driveway to be sure that the electric fan was kicking on, and it did at about 210. I did notice that at idle the engine fan was spinning REALLY slow, like maybe 150-200 rpm. When I revved it up to around 1500 rpm the fan would spin just fine. Is it normal for the engine fan to run that slowly at idle??

Message: With the engine not running and cold, try turning the clutch to see if there is any resistance. Also, try to wiggle it side to side to check for any play in the clutch fan. It could be going bad.
I've been running my '00 QC 3.9 w/o that clutch fan using just the factory electric for the last 5-1/2 yrs and have never had it even get close to overheating. Even in the Deep South w/ A/C blasting and idling in traffic in the middle of August.
