I just got a quote for 24 for invoice for a new CC! What is this crap. He said this is what he gets them for and this is 100 over the fleet price which is invoice. Damn, he's the manager too. I just really want the 0% financing, he said I qualified for it, but it sounded skeptical. I have called 3 others so I am waiting on their offers too. Jeez, that sucks.

Go to www.autosite.com or any of the other web sites that have invoices for the truck you want. Show the dealer the info you find, if he says it's BS then walk because he is the one that's full of it.

Given the economy right now, you should be able to get a good deal (I'm working on one myself). A fully loaded 4X2 QUAD 4.7 SLT Plus is around $24 at MSRP, so there is no way a CC is that much unless it's a R/T with leather and lots of goodies.

I bought my wife's last car (a loaded '00 VW Passat) for $400 over invoice with NO hassles, so it can be done once you prove you know what your talking about. Just remember they are selling something to you, so your in control... you can always walk away.

I went through vehix.com recently - they put me in contact with 3 local dealers and -

1) come in we will talk
2) $100 over invoice
3) invoice.

I went with choice 3. They faxed me the invoice with the options for the specific vehicle - it was the bottom line. I checked other web sites to compare the invoice prices (vehicle & options) and they agreed.

FYI - I paid $24.5 with $2000 rebate - includes sales tax. 01 QC 4.7L 5spd 4x4 driver power seats, heated mirrors, handling group (rear sway bar & 265 tires). This is in seattle.

Sandman- what is the 17" wheel package? The 17" are available from the factory only on the R/T. Did they just add them on an additional dealer sticker? Did you still get the stock 16" wheels and tires?

The best site to add up options I think is msn's carpoint. They won't let you add something that is not available with other options and it keeps a running total. Also keep in mind the invice the dealer uses will be about $300-500 higher because they will include advertising in their invoice.

I researched my truck down to the last detail at Carsdirect.com, and found not only the exact invoice price for the truck I intended to order, but I also discovered the factory "hold-back" amount (this is the amount of $$ that the dealer receives from the factory over and above the invoice price) was $2,500.

Sticker was $24,900 - Invoice was $20,700.

I took this to a local dealer, and offered him $19,200. When the fleet manager balked, I told him that I was offering him a chance to pull in $1,000 (2/5 of the hold-back) and sell another vehicle, knowing that he is less concerned with how much he sells it for then he is with how MANY vehicles he sells that month. Being in Southern California, I also reminded him that there were at least a dozen Dodge dealerships within fifty miles, and that if he wasn't interested, I'd find a dealer that is.

He told me that he'd need to get an approval, so I left. When I got home, he'd already left a voice mail... accepting the offer: $19,200 for a 2001 SLT CC w/ 4.7/auto, buckets, all pwr,tilt/cruise/air, fender flares, 255/65/16's, HD pkg, high end stereo, leather wheel w/ stereo controls, and fog lights.

Long after the the dealership forgets about me... I'll still be driving this "$25,000" truck... for almost $6,000 less that he wanted me to.

Are you sure about the $2500 holdback? Holdback is usually only 3% of MSRP, and should be around $700 for dakota.

If the dealer shows you the invoice, the holdback will be one of the last items listed on that invoice. It's probably more like $800-$900 for that vehicle.

Keep in mind there are often other dealer incentives offered that we never hear about, usually based on sales volume. The selling price on my R/T was $500 under invoice(before rebates) and I assure you they aren't losing money even at that price.

GraphiteRT, you may be onto something regarding thr dealer incentive. I'm not positive of the breakdown, but I do know that that an incentive wasn't mentioned (to me).

Whatever the equasion, I feel that I got a great deal, and -yes - I agree that no matter what the final sale price... the dealership NEVER loses money. There are likely still a few who will pay the sticker price.

I'd say that's nuts! I just bought an '01 4X2 club
cab SLT with full power, tires package,
2-tone... no leather.

Invoice was $23,000+ and the invoice I was
shown (including advertising) was something
like $20,300 and then I got the $2000 off for
$18,300. The dealer added back a nice
fiberglass Leer shell for $640, painted to
match the truck- and I paid right at $19,000.

I'd say you need to SHOP SHOP SHOP.

Steve,
Is yours 2001 or 2002, there is 2k rebate on 2001.
Did your price(19K)include that 2k rebate? I just ordered mine today, 02' quad, sports plus, power pack. abs, etc. My invoice is around $22.9K including everything except tax and tittle. This is about right if your invoice is $20.3. I took the 0% finacing, which equals 2k rebate. Plus dealer told me I am qualified for both farm bureau and graduate rebate($900 combined). I got it for $150 under invoice. Donno how i did on this, but I figured that they must make some money to survive. I spent less than 1 hour total at the dealership, absolutely haggle free.

I went to another dealer and they quoted me $100 over invoice at 22,010 so I am gonna with them. But I cannot get the options I want. So we'll see. Apparently you can't get the optional payload on the SLT Plus 25H package.

Drove into Murray Dodge in my little reg cab 107000 mile 95 Ranger on October 31st 03 a little after 4pm and drove out by around 7 or so in an Atlantic Blue 04 Quad CAb Sport Plus 4x4 with package 26C, 60/40 split bench, rear slider, V8, 5speed automatic, tilt, cruise, single CD, . Stickered at just about 29,330. Invoice according to both Edmunds and KElley Blue book was right at about 26,100. Holdback at 3% of sticker should have been approximately 880 on this particular truck, so invoice minus holdback would have been about 25,220.

Walked in saying I wanted to be at about 24K plus taxes and financing when all was said, acting like I had just pulled the number out of my ass. Told him if he could take the rebates and my trade and make it work for that number Id take a truck off his hands. They told me that would be hard on an 04 with only 2500 in rebates available but it would be easy if they could find me a left over 03 with the 4 grand in incentives. So I had them jump on the locator and look for 03's. They found one that had what I wanted, over 300 miles away in Rhode Island, which they weren't willing to go get for me at first. I told them give me the name and number of that dealer, I will call to leave a credit card deposit over the phone and drive from Philly to Rhode Island to save myself the 2 grand. Salesman ran to the manager, manager says find a way to put an 04 in the same price range. We found one on their lot in a color I liked, and they gave me a really high value for my trade in order to make up for the 2 grand in rebates I wasn't getting by going for the new model year. Picture it... regular cab 95 Ranger, 4 cyl, stickshift, torn seat, torn headliner, 107 thousand miles, Walmart paint job(dont ask), not even air conditioning, and an ugly white contractor's cap complete with ladder rack to put the cherry on top. I had been offered 300 for it earlier in the day, and I thought THAT was generous. he offered me 1980 for it, or just about the exact amount of rebates I was missing out on by not getting an 03.

Then we started on the financing. Told him straight out, I could get below 5% with Police and Fire credit union even though truth was I had not even applied to them yet. If he couldn't get me the same or beat it, Id either finance elsewhere and come back to buy later or else wait another year to save up and pay cash. He definitely didn't like me throwing out another reason why I sould walk out. He shopped my financing around, got me 4.9, which is about as good as I felt a 23 year old recent college grad with only a 3 yr credit history could expect.

When all was said and done, we started at sticker, went 2500 off, then 1980 for my worthless Ranger, 450 for 'customer preferred discount', whatever that is, and 400 for my college grand rebate, to get the total to 24,167 for the truck itself. And that included about 108$ in fees but no destination charge.

Or for you invoice addicts, 2 grand below invoice. Even with taxes added in it only came to about 25,567, still about 600 under invoice, or invoice-holdback+ about 300 bucks. Did he still make money? Absolutely. AFter all, even though I paid less than he did most of my discounts were subsidized by the factory, not him. Plus I financed through them, a factor which probably made them more willing to work with me on my trade because theyd make money on the kickback from the financing. Whereas if Im walking in with a pre approved check for 24 grand he has no reason to inflate the value of my beater.
