 Subject: 98 dakota tranny trouble

Just bought this truck about a month ago has 128000 miles on it has the V-8 enginge and 4 speed auto transmission. Last night when I was driving it that it would not shift from 2nd to 3rd unless if let off on accelerator then it would. I was to afraid to stay on it to see if it would shift. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

didn't have a problem for three months... then the trans started slipping... so thats where i'm at...

I don't know if its a pressure line somewhere up there but its either than or the bands needs to be tighter.
Mine as done the same thing. Sometimes it starts off from 3rd.:(
