Subject: 03 Power door locks and fob issue IP: Logged
Message: All of a sudden, and without prior symptoms, my entire power door lock system stopped working today. The power door lock switches inside the truck do absolutely nothing. Besides the click of the switch itself, there is no sound of actuators or anything. Both of my key fobs are useless. And, now that I think about it, I don't think the doors lock automatically at 10mph+. Has anyone dealt with this before? I'm assuming this could be as simple as a bad ground somewhere, or as expensive as a bad computer module?

Message: You can check the door lock fuse, but this is probably a bad Central Timer Module. When actuators start to wear out they generally will make noise before they quit altogether and it's pretty unlikely they would both quit at the same time.
You might try unplugging the CTM or disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and see if it will reset the CTM. The only way to tell for sure if the CTM is bad is to have the dealer scan it with the DRB tool. If I had to guess on this I'd say the CTM is bad.

Message: Jimmy, thank you.
I actually brought it into PepBoys this afternoon. After 3.5 hours of fiddling and testing another mechanic, who just arrived for his shift, had a similar solution. He used to be a Chrysler mechanic. He removed the negative cable and touched it to the positive terminal for about 30 seconds. They reconnected the cables and everything worked perfectly. He theorized that the cold, dry weather was allowing a static charge to build in the timer (BCM). He has dealt with similar situations on other Chrysler vehicles in the past.

Message: It's probably the "Central Timer Module." I had the same problem on my '03. As it progressed the "Service 4x4" indicator came on and finaly the wipers wouldn't work. Disconnecting and reconnectiiong the battery will temporarily "fix" it. Look for a coupon for a repair discount from a dealer and take advantage of it. It will cost you about $300. BTW, the module itself is made by Motorola - its the radio receiver for the key-fobs.

Message: I forgot to mention, if you have the Central Timer Module replaced; take both key fobs. They will have to be programmed for the new module before they will work again.
Let us know how long the "touching the cables together" trick works. I would guess only a couple of days at best.
