Message: I have a 99 dakota with a 3.9 auto....when the engine is cold in the morning, it doesn't want to shift out of second till over 40 miles per hour and sometimes higher...if i let off the gas for a second, then give it gas again to get it to shift, it still stays in second.......its very annoying........any ideas what it could be?? I am now out of warranty so the dealer is not an option...they'd say it was "normal" anyways...lol....

Message: I just had mine in the shop for that same problem, it is some governor sensor inside the transmission. They had to remove the pan and replace it, then clear the computer. Warranty paid for it so I don't know how much it would cost. My guess would be a couple of hundred.

Message: My 94 Dakota does that too. Do you know what the part name is so I can try and hunt one down to replace it in my trany.
Thanks,
John

Message: I will get the work order and post the name of the part, probably around lunch time. On mine it did it cold and hot.

Message: The dealer work order states:
Code P1762 GOV Pressure senso offset volts too low or high -internal short-
R&R Trans oil pan=tested and replaced the gov pressure sensor, cleared codes and road tested.
Part #56028196-AB Transduce
plus your gasket and trans oil
Labor time: 1.10 hour
all covered under warranty
This cured the gear sticking in first and second gear at low to medium RPM & any Temp.
But I must report that the problem has not gone away all together, the rev limiter now kicks in before you get to 2nd gear at full throttle. Looks like I need to take it back in.
