Help!

My 2000 Dakota, 4x4, 4.7l with the 45RFE auto in it has some sort of issue.
When it is in either Park or Neutral all of the gears are shown selected. i.e. there is little green boxes around all of the P.R.N.D.2.1.
When I shift it into any of the actual gears however, it only lights up the gear I put it in.
I did check all the fuses, none blown. Also disconnected the battery, that fixed it for the drive home, but now it's back.
Suggestions would really help, thanks!

Well if your transmission is working ok the don't worry about it. No need to wast money on a eight or nine year old truck.

Maybe you need to hook up a code reader to see if it's indicating a problem. Does the cel come on?

No check engine light, which is what makes it really weird.
It even went back to normal for a while too, but then started messing up again...

Fluid is full, checked while running. Last service was done 20k ago.

Truck has almost 90k on it now total.

Cycled the key, got a "P done", so no codes held in the computer anyways...

Still drives ok, but is confusing me...

Well at least your transmission still works in your truck. In my 94 SLT it will no longer go in reverse. So I'm dumping it for another.

If any one got any ideas whats the best Dakota (year, options, configeration) I'm open.
