 Subject: New Dakota Owner A lot of Questions

Hi i''m new to the forum, I just bought a 94 Dakota 2wd Reg Cab. I''m looking to use it as somewhat daily driver all year round. I have a few questions that I am hoping one of you guys on here can help me out with.
-How hard would it be to convert it to 4x4? Is it worth the effort?
-Lift kits, I''m not looking for something really high just a few inches *or* so.
-How about any performance upgrades for the v6? (other than upgrading to a v8 lol)
-The rockers are starting to show their age and are bubbling, does any one know if replacements are available?
-I just picked up the truck it has 245xxx km''s on it (roughly 153xxx miles), other than changing the fluids, should I be doing anything else in preventative maintenance?
-Also can I run new dakota rims on the truck? If so what years?

Hey newbie, welcome to the site.
I'd try some of your questions on the off road board, like the 2 to 4 Well drive, lift kits, etc.
Try the V6 board for perfomance upgrades, etc.
You'll find the link to those boards and others just to the left of the screen.

cdnturboz, first, changing from 2wd to 4wd can be done, expect to pay more than what its worth, frankly you could sell it and buy a 4X4 for the cost to change it over.
As for performance upgrades check the V6 section.
I don't know about the rocker panels.
I think you should check and change the spark plugs, wires and dist. cap if they haven't been changed in a while.

The most common mods with some decent immediate gains: Cold Air Intake and better exhaust system. Better breathing = more power & better MPG.
Most bang for the buck in performance: chips / CPU flash by the likes of manufacturers such as Hypertech.
Maintenance: Keep an eye on ball joints. (Although I think your model year predates most of the problems with them.) Expect some sensors to die on you or clog up. Clean out the throttle body & idle air intake with some carburetor / TB cleaner and you might get immediate gains and/or better idling if it has accrued any oil & gunk in it.
