Message: I just ordered a Superchips 3815 for my '03 Dak 4.7L. Can anyone with one tell me what exactly is the best program/fuel/octane combination you've used for more power & towing capability? I'll probably end up trying mine out in different situations but wouldn't mine some experienced opinions. My truck has 126,000 kms, 5-speed automatic, 3.94 gears, quadcab, cold air intake, LT245/75R16" tires. The travel trailer is 24' long, 4500 lbs dry, tandem axle. Thanks.

Message: Drake,
While the Superchips DOES dyno a gain, in each different setting (see the archives for my dyno runs with the superchips on the three different settings.), Don't expect that much.
The more stock you are, (no HO cams, etc.), and your auto tranny, you may even seen a dynoed 10-15 hp/tq gain MAX. (mine was 8 hp/tq max gain.)
However my non SC tuner, was higher than another guys stock, max pull with his superchips tuner. In other words, with my slight mods, no SC's, was still better than his max SC's w/ premium gas.
Sc's does help some. One auto tranny guy said it helped his shift points also.
Don't get me wrong, it is one of the add-ons, that WILL dyno a gain, consistently.
I'd recommend the 87 octane setting for obvioius reasons. I can usually get away with the towing setting on 87 octane, especially when I was running the 3923 plugs. If you're towing a load though, you will probably get some pinging, due mainly to the slight spark advance from the SC tuner.
What's nice about it is you could pull over and reduce the setting within a matter of minutes, or get premium gas, etc. It's readily changeable.

Message: Thank you, that's exactly what I needed to hear. Sounds like I'll probably put some 4.10 gears in next.

Message: Drake,
That's a kinda of heavy load.
While it's well within the limits of your dak,
you didn't mention, does it have the factory towing pack?
And if so, it came with various things like the tranny cooler, Class 5 hitch, higher amp battery, higher output alternator, elec brake in the 7 pin, etc.
You got that too, right?

Message: Yes, it has the factory towing package with all that stuff. I've been on a few short camping trips, mostly under 300 miles round trip and it performs adequately. When I do long road trips then a hotel is the way to go. Thanks for the tips.
