TexasTodd, I bought a new RAM 1500 back in 01.
It had the old 5.9 (360) in it. I loved the thing
and so did gas stations. Mileage was the worst I
EVER had in any truck I ever owned. I got rid of
it with only 2k on the clock. I traded it for a
02 Dakota Sport 4X4 with the 4.7.
I'm sure todays RAM's are NOT getting any better
mileage. The 5.7 Hemi is a great engine but it
loves fuel. The 4.7 is ok in a Dakota but I bet
it's a little too small in the Ram.
I REALLY miss the extended cab on the RAM's also.
The standard cab doesn't look good (to me) with
the cab design and a four door is WAY to much
truck for a lot of us.
Right now I have NO trucks. Just sold my 02
Dakota two months ago. I'm looking for a much
older RAM in good shape. Something I can open the
hood on and fix it myself. The tried and true 5.2
(318) V8 was a great engine.
Just my thoughts... Happy new Year!

Radioman, I had a '99 2500 4x4 with the 360 and I will definitely agree on the gas guzzler. I traded it on '03 2500 4x4 hemi. The gas mileage is actually a shade better than the 360, but more importantly the HP is way up in a hemi vs the 360.
Why Dodge got rid of the extended cab is beyond me. My '03 is a reg cab and when it comes time to replace it I may jump ship and go to GM just for the extended cab. My '05 Dakota is ext cab and I really like it.

I like the newer Ram, No dout its a great truck but its really for the Car&driver people. Where is the increased capablity at? Only 1800 lbs hauling and 9200 lbs towing. True I could get a HD 2500. Or I could get a XL F-150!

I agree; but the coil spring rear suspension is revalutionary! Its about time you can buy a truck with no axel hop. Differnt story with a HD but if I wanted to buy a pick-up with a tow rateing over 4 tons; I'll buy a 2500 Ram or F-250

i loved my 01 ram 1500
granted 13-15 mpg sucked, but whatever
my 3500 gets 15 city 18 hwy.
so you guys are telling me that the hemi with MDS on the hwy gets like 12-13 mpg?
everyone i have talked to says like 18-20
