Subject: Snow Chains IP: Logged
Message: According to my owners manual I'm not supposed to put snow chains on the front of my 04 4x4, only the rear. I'd rather have traction on my steering tires then my rear where I'll have less traction. Does my front come locked up? is the the possible reason that I'm not supposed to do this.
Also, when on a trail covered with snow that has recently fallen; will I get alot more traction when using chains? I was out the other day and had to air down, I didn't really want to freeze my hands while putting on the chains. Luckily there was a few of us out there and we spent the day pulling each other out. Not that that's a bad thing since we were the first ones romping out there.

Message: could be they are worried about the chains hitting the frame when you're in a full turn.

Message: You´ll get a lot more traction with chains, but the reason to put them on the rear wheels is that it is downright dangerous to have them on the front wheels only. If you have to stop suddenly, and who doesn´t once in a while, and hit the brakes the vehicle will switch ends quicker than it takes to say: "faeces". And what happens from there is anybody´s guess.
