Subject: rear axle switch IP: Logged
Message: I know someone who is looking to switch the rear axle in his 2008 dodge dakota from a corporate 9.25 LD to a DANA 44. Has anybody done this? Will there be enough difference in the gear ratio that the transfer case and front diff may need to be replaced too???

Message: I put a Dana 60 under the rear of my 96 Dakota after the stock 8.25" ate a pinion bearing. There are plenty of gear ratios available for the Dana 44 & 60 diffs so as long as your friend matches the ratio of the front diff in his truck, there won't be any problems. Also note, the Dana 44 has a longer pinion so driveshaft modification (shortening) will also be necessary.
