Subject: R/T wheels on a 4x4 IP: Logged
Message: I like the looks of the R/T wheels and was wondering would they look ok on a 4x4 with some 32 or 33" tires? or would it look like sh!t?

Message: Personally, I like the look of rims up to 16" on 4x4s. I'm not sure what the R/Ts are but I've heard they are 17". Low...Ri...der...:-) Don't do it unless you're running 10 inches of lift. My suggestion.

Message: I think it would look great! Ebay has R/T wheels of varying sizes if you want to take a look (some gorgeous chrome ones too, don't know if you'd want to offroad in those though)

Message: I think it would look great, with the appropiate size tire. I will probably do it this next spring.
97' 4x4 RC 5.2 I figure that in my case that the performance is not to bad but the handling sucks so I wiil start with wheels and tires.

Message: Maybe I will look into it, thanks every one, oh yea those chrome R/T wheels, are they true chrome or are they polished aluminm? I think it would be a pain to change the wheels every winter.

Message: I've "thought" about a sport wheel package on a 4x4 before. My uncle has larger rims and low profiles on his Chevy 4x4. The diameter of wheel measured to the tread is about the same as what was stock (maybe a little bigger), but the low profile looks great. He also has a tuned LT1 Corvette Engine in it making 420 BHP, but thats diff. story.
My concern is that I wouldn't want to mess up any payload or towing ability by using a weaker rim. I'm not saying the RT rim is weaker, but I'd want to know before I did it!!

Message: My Expedition has 17" wheels on it... and the tires are only slightly larger than what is on my Dak. The tires on the Expy are 265/70R17 and the tires on my Dak are 31x10.50x15s. I believe the 17s are between 31" and 32" tall. To make a long story short, you do have tire options that would make your 4x4 look good. And you wouldn't have to modify your truck to make them fit.

Message: The Durango R/T uses the same 17" rims and it's a 4x4. The tires the Durango R/T gets are wider and taller then the Dakota R/T gets (275/65/17 -vs- 255/55/17) If you have a stock 4x4 Dakota whatever size tire you can fit in the 15" line will still fit with a 17" rim, the external size of the tire is what counts as far as rubbing goes. The 15" rim would be better off road though to better cushion the ride with a taller sidewall.

Message: As it happens...I run the 17" R/T wheels on my '98 SLT 4X4. Tires are size 275-60-17; Goodyear GT II raised white letters. The GT II are an all season tire. Mated with Edelbrock AIS shocks, the handling improvements are incredible over the 31" RT/S tires I had. The GT II's are about an inch wider than the 31", giving the truck a real mean look. No more squealing tires. The handling before the changeover was terrible...
The overall tire diameter in the same on the 17" as with the 31" combination.

Message: Well not really, I'll use 4x4 in the snow if it gets bad enough, and plan on going to visit my cousin up north, they have trails back there, to give you an idea of these trails they've always had a 2wd normal tires and never got stuck. since I plan on keeping it for a while and with the payment can't afford to much more than regular maintence so I don't plan on beating on the thing, but we'll see, hehe

Message: I agree with Jeff Redmond. If you plan on doing any 4 wheeling, the 17 in rims would not be a good idea.
