98 3.9L 4x4 - I just put in a new water pump this weekend and now I have a coolant leak coming from the REAR of the engine(nowhere near the new pump). It is a slow drip almost directly under my oil pan. Any ideas?

could be a freeze plug or one of the heater hoses leaking and dripping on the back of the motor. anytime you fix a leak on a cooling system, if there is another weak point you'll find it quick.

I checked the heater core last night and the hoses were bone dry. I'm gonna crawl under there this weekend and see if I can pinpoint the exact source of the leak. Has anyone ever changed the freeze plug behind the tranny before? I've heard for about $300 at the shop you can get them all changed. Just want to know if those who have done it themselves thought it was worth it.

i've done some on 2wd vehicles. not too bad. i can imagine a 4x4 would be a little more work with dropping the trans and t-case.

Well, on top of the leak I mentioned earlier, I also started getting a much larger leak from around the front of the engine. It looked like coolant was spraying all over but all the hoses looked good. I ended up putting a 13 lb radiatior cap in (down from 16 lbs) and I haven't seen a drop since. Not sure if lowering the pressure had anything to do with it or if my old cap was just defective.

I'd lean toward the previous cap not holding the pressure, especially if it was the original one...
