Which Dodge/Chrysler vehicle do you own?
What's gone wrong with it?

Message: it is true that you cannot please everyone. i've owned vehicles made by GM, Chrysler, Mazda to name a few and each has their own lemons. you could take 2 exact same vehicles from the same manufacturer, beat the snot out of one and baby the other and get different results.
as far as my '00 QC, the balljoints were changed under extended warranty, the 7.5 yr old battery was changed a few months ago and i changed the pulley on the tensioner a month ago because it was just starting to wobble. i think that's pretty dam good for 8.5 yrs/ 90k miles of service.
i've had GM's, cars and trucks before, even same brand and model just different years. some traded because of mulitple problems while under warranty. some driven to almost 200k with no problems.

Been there, done that.
Had a new '93 Toyota 4x4 V6. I loved that truck, but it didn't love me back. Had numerous problems, stuff like one of the hubs had to be replaced because it wouldn't unlock after my first time off road. The transmission never would go into third gear right no matter how many times I took it back to the dealer. Pinion seal in the rear diff went out because the diff vent got clogged with dust. Headliner ripped after two years. The crank and cam seals were all shot by 60,000 miles, ditto for the water pump. Coolant was leaking at all connections (heater hoses, thermostat housing, you name it). I traded the truck in for a Ford Ranger in 1998. I knew the Toyota was going to blow a head gasket, as ALL of the Toyota truck V6 engines built in that era did that. Toyota Quality. Yeah, right! More like marketing hype!
The Ranger was a nice truck, but the Check Engine light would come on about every three months. Cost me between $500 and $900 every time that happened. That was back before I had a code reader and knew how to work on modern vehicles. Traded the Ford in on the Dakota in 2000 out of disgust.
I have kept the Dodge twice as long as I had any other vehicle. I'm not about to get rid of it any time soon. It's my favorite out of the bunch. My mechanic friend replaced the ball joints with Moog ones with grease fittings. That should take care of that! I had the Check Engine light come on once. Bad O2 sensor. $70 later I was back on the road (I work on it myself now!). The right front hub keeps wearing out, requiring replacement. I still haven't figured that one out yet. Other than that, the truck has been pretty much trouble-free.
Yes, the moral of the story is any vehicle can have perfect reliability, and any vehicle can be a lemon. The only one that really rubbed me the wrong way was the Toyota. Legendary reliability might have been the way to describe them back in the eighties when American cars were junk, but Toyotas are the same as everyone else now. Mebbe a little worse.

Message: Once the transmission broke down, you had a Catholic religious ceremony ? Religion won't help with your transmission problem any more than it helped STS a while back.
When I hear of a transmission problem, the first thing I think of is how many transmissions I've had to replace in GMs I've owned. I've owned more Mopars for more miles, and never had to do anything more to the transmissions than routine service. Don't be so sure that GM is better...

Message: 127,000 + miles on my 03 Quadcab and the 4.7 engine and 545RFE transmission are still running strong. Regular maintenance is the key. Frequent oil changes, and 30,000 mile transmission filter and fluid changes have everything to do with it. I will say though, even with proper maintenance, I have had several problems with the corporate 9.25 rear axle. But something like that could happen with any manufacturer. I wish they had put the Dana axle in the Dakota instead. Really, your just trying to stir the pot huh?

Message: nothing lasts forever.. not dodge, not ford, not chevy and not even those hondas and toyotas.
chrysler did a great thing when they put out a recall on balljoints on 4x4 dakotas (and extended warranty on the 2wd). ask all the ford F150 and Explorer owners how many times they've had to replace balljoints. that's probably our number one money maker at work. Explorer or F150 comes in for a free alignment check and leaves with a $600-700 bill. i'm sure all those people paying wish they had a recall or extended warranty.
i work at a goodyear gemini store and see all makes and all models. there's not some special magical vehicle out there that doesnt need repair

Message: It was really the 3 speeds with O/D that gave Chrysler a bad rep in quality. But it's there fault. Why they didn't replace them with better improved transmission is anyone’s guess.

Message: I owned a 96 Dakota Extended Cab SLT. The paint was probably the worst thing on it. It was the two tone black and silver and had red pin stripes. It had the 5.7L V8 but I had a few problems with it. The 02 sensor went (normal), the brakes froze up on me one winter and needed shoes drums and hardware replaced, a gf of mine I thought I would let test drive it (big mistake) pressed too hard on the brakes and popped the brake line. The switch for the fan speed was screwed up (I bought it used mind you and tried replacing the resistor to find that it was actually a lose connection inside the panel. A ball joint went dry once and the cab had an intermitten leak caused by a poor visor installation. Only problem I really had with it was parts were expensive and the gas was expensive. Mind you the as I drove it I noticed that the engine had to work a slightly higher RPMs over time to obtain the same speed. In other words it would do 100km/h at 1700 RPM and 6 months later it would do the same speed around 2000 RPM. Could that be caused by tires or?
