and i'm not sticking around to greet him either. if any of you live in louisiana south of I-10 i suggest you do the same. so far every model shows it coming inland and moving over lafayette(where i currently reside). been through plenty of these. the best thing to do is head north, have a big hurricane party, then when it's over go home and clean up the mess.
someone turn off the lights on the way out!

we'll be ok where we're at. i just hope my house is fine when it's over. got a 15 yr old roof so that's a little concerning. sandbagged my doors. the real pain will be no power for 3-7 days. been there done that a few times.

They don,t have a dumbass dem Gov. down there this time. It will go alot smoother. During Katrina, All the other state gov. in the area signed up for fed help before the storm. Gov Blanco waited 24hours after the storm hit to sign up. She was afraid of putting troops on the streets of her state.(they have the sound track of her saying that). Lou. then voted in its first rep gov in over 100 years. They are ready..

thanks for the well wishes. we're home now. power was back on yesterday @ 9 am. we were really lucky in my area. to the south and the north not so lucky. kids are out of school until Monday and i don't know when the wife and i can go back to work. the parish(we don't have counties) where we both work is 99% without power. luckily i didn't have any mess to cleanup but will have to help the rest of my family and my wifes cleanup. we stayed at my wifes sisters and they still don't have power but do have a generator. we will have to return the favor and let them enjoy some of this a/c.
now to keep an eye on Ike. we don't like unwelcome visitors like these.

Been without power for four or five days? Yea, three times in the past 25 years. Ice storms with the temp. inside the house just above freezing. They finally buryed the powerlines(like the newer areas of the county). Point being is that it sucks, be it from the cold or from the humidity. Mother earth can be a bitch.

Glad to hear that everyone is ok. We cought alot of rain from Gustov. 7 or more inches. It rained for three days straight. Had steady winds around 20+.

Are they going to use these hurricanes as bogus excuses to hit America some more with bumping up the ga$ prices some more? America's economy isn't wiped out yet. It needs the oil prices to be more still to finish the job.

Most of the country's oil refineries are in the Houston area, WTF do you think will happen with gas prices. I don't see anything bogus about that.

Hurricane Ike has inspired a panic that perhaps even exceeds the panic witnessed after Hurricane Katrina knocked out four refineries for more than half a year. Gulf Coast trading this morning is absolutely frantic, and we have seen spot deals done at $4.25 gal, then again above $4.50 gal, with current offers near the $5.00 gal neighborhood.
All of this is rooted in the belief that Ike will put another huge chunk of refining capacity on the shelf, at least until late September. The prospects of catastrophic damage to Texas plants is not yet reflected in RBOB futures, which at this moment are up 11cts gal to $2.77 gal for October delivery.
Gulf Coast gasoline quickly traded at $1.00 gal over futures, and then moved in 25-50cts gal increments and $2.00 gal over the screen (about $4.75 gal) was done. Sellers are now asking for $2.20 gal over the Merc, and very stiff prices extend beyond the prompt cycle, although they drop by 25-50cts gal in some cases.

Midwestern markets have yet to sort out the potential impact. We've seen bids at 25cts gal over futures, but sellers are at 75cts gal over in the Group 3 market, which would imply values in the $3.00-$3.50 gal neighborhood. Chicago is guessed at about 60-70cts gal over the screen, and even New York has seen talk of gasoline getting done above $3.00 gal.
These numbers represent moving targets and the panic that has gripped gasoline has yet to fully filter into the diesel market. Prices there are talked at 22cts gal over the screen at the Gulf Coast, which puts the absolute number around $3.17 gal.
Some suppliers are reacting to the spot surge in record time. We've already confirmed that Valero has raised gasoline at a number of points by 50cts gal.

How come when hurricanes hit down there in all the other decades the gas prices didn't quadruple.

STS, oil is a world wide commodity years ago it was still cheap all over, that's why the price tended to stay low. Now however the price is going up again, the "opec" nations are also trying to cash in on the hurricanes as well by slowing oil production by 500,000 barrels a day.
With everything combined the price can only go up, yet the oil companies (American ones) will be the ones to take the hit for it.
