Message: I also have an 88 Dakota non sport 4x4 and found your page on how to lift it. I also did a lot of research and also found that the suspension and steering are very similar and look virtually the same. I was wondering if I was going to run into rear drive line problem with the length. I have the 3.9 V6, A904 transmission and the 231 transfer case. I'm getting ready to do a 2" body lift, 32x11.5x15 BFG MT, and the lift kit DD43SSV that you recommended. I'm doing the body lift first, then the tires and then the suspension lift.
Thanks for displaying all the info to do the lift.

Message: Having modified the DD43 kit to an earlier Dakota myself, in hindsight, I would now advise against it. You're going to spend a lot of cash for just 4" of lift and the durability of the Trailmaster list left a lot to be desired. Besides the cost of the DD43 kit itself, you'll need to swap rims, and all the suspension parts you'll need to change to make the DD43 kit fit. You'll also find there are quite a few "While it's apart" parts that you didn't plan for. After buying the suspension kit, you should have at least $2000 in cash in your pocket before you even start the install.
If you are determined to put the DD43 in, make it a lot easier for yourself and get the lower control arms, knuckles, hubs, calipers from a 91 Dakota 4x4 first. It'll make the installation of the kit far easier.
Years ago when I did this install, I documented the whole thing, including a the issues I ran into during and post install. Go to this URL:

It'll give you some good info about what you're in for.

Message: If it is actually starting and running, then dies...it is possibly fuel related (starved). Fuel filter clogged is indicative of it running for a short period then dying. Trash (sediment) in the fuel tank may be being drawn to the pick-up tube. This would also choke off the fuel supply. Once the pump is shut off (ignition switch turned off) the debris is let lose and the next time a start attempt is made, it eventually draws it back again.

Message: Did he do a key cycle test to see if it kicked any codes? The 88 ECM was an early OBD system and will give some basic error codes.
