Subject: Spray / Roll on Bed Liners? IP: Logged
Message: I was at the dealer yesterday, looking into buying a new Dakota and they asked me if I wanted a bedliner I told him no they tear up the bed and cause them to rust, and how I had planned on getting a spray or roll on liner. and the salesman told me they cause the value of the truck to drop. has anyone heard of this? I would think if you put on of these liners in right away it would raise the value if anything, kinda like rust proofing the truck.

Message: I just traded in a 2001 QC that I spent 380
bucks on a Linex liner and they gave me 500
bucks credit on the value of the truck trading it
in on another 2001 QC.

Message: Was the 500 because of the liner? and why did you trade it in? If you don't mind me asking.

Message: I traded it in for the .9% finance rate because I
was buying my wifea Intrepid at the same
time. Dropped my truck payment 100 bucks a
month. Yes it was for the sprayed in liner. Only
offered me 300 bucks for the A.R.E. LS II
cover. I kept that and had it repainted.

Message: The dealer is lying and only wants to sell you a crummy drop in liner that will rust your bed out in 2 years time.
No mater what he says it will do for the value, tell him NO you dont want his bed liner and go with a spray in.
Also the major dealor in my area has 5 trucks in their show room with line-x on them? If they lower the value, why would they show them off?
Then tell the dealer you want $500 off the price of the truck because he insulted your intelligance. When he laughs, walk out of the showroom get in you car, roll the window down and start it up... wait a few minutes and see who comes running out to beg for forgivness.

Message: Thanks Jeff i was thinking of just putting a mat in there, but I know i wouldn't be happy with it. The salesman was pretty stupid too he tried telling me they don't offer the suplier discount so I told him to go ask his manager and sure enough he was wrong, maybe that's why the service wasn't really there. Oh well sucks to be them hehe

Message: The dealers name is Winners Dodge. 25151 Allen Road, Woodhaven MI. The salesmans name is Travis.
The more you guys talk about this dealer being a pud the more I want to go up there and tell the guy off. Oh well when I buy my Dakota I'll make sure I let him know he lost a sale, then I'll be an ass and let the new car sales manager know about this, and this is why they lost a sale.

Message: Well when I bought my '01 4x4 CC SLT+ the sales guy and the sales manager both remarked that the spray-on liners added value to the vehicle.
Is the service dept at this dealer as dimwitted as the sales drone? If so, maybe you should be looking for a different Dodge dealer? Just a thought.
Oh, and I love the dealer name...they sure don't hire sales winners!!

Message: Oh no... are the drop in bedliners really that damaging? I've had one in mine for over 2 years now. Should I get rid of it and get the spray on type?

Message: Lesley, I would. I looked at 2 used 2000 Dak's that had the drop in liners and I could see scratches on the inside sidewalls and the bed at the rear underneath the liner. That was the major reason I got the Linex spray-on.

Message: Lesley, my father's had a drop-in (but not Mopar) in his '92 for ... since '92. We took it out to wax beneath it before he and my mother moved up to New Jersey this spring. He was going to be carrying several hundred pounds of car parts, and had never pulled it out before. There was no damage at all to bed or paint. Of course, your mileage may vary - *I* wouldn't do it! :-)

Message: Darn... and I thought I was being such a clever haggler! I talked them down $1,000 & throw in the bedliner free. It's an All-Star, seems pretty rugged. Why would the mileage vary?

Message: Heh heh ... YMMV ... it essentially means "Your results may vary from what I said". Sorta a disclaimer. Probably better avoided in a vehicular forum, on reflection, but a fairly popular remark/play on phrases across the Web. But, as you look through other message boards, YMMV on usage of this... :-)

Message: Lesley the problem is that all dropins slide arround a little bit and wear down the paint in the bed. Then if any water gets traped between the bed and the liner it will rust and you will never see it. I took my drop in out of mine after it had been in there for 2 years. There were spots all over the bed that was warn down to bear metal. My sister-in-law has a 1996 She bought it used, it has a drop in so between 1996 and last year when she bought it there is visible rust damage underneath.
So I would skip the drop in and get them to come down anyways take the $$$ saved and go with a spray on.
