 Subject: Air Conditioning Stuck On!

My air conditioning seems to be stuck on. after I changed my battery. (I don''t know how it could be related?)
Here are the symptoms;
- My gas mileage has gone down.
- If I turn the blower on with the air conditioning button off the air is cold, it is 28C outside so it should not be cold at all.
- If I turn the air conditioning on the air gets a little colder, not much.
- When I do turn the air conditioning on I think I smell something chemically, not 100% sure what or if I''m just being oversensitive because of the issue.
Any help or advice is very much appreciated.

Is your system set to defrost mode?
Put the selector to one of the floor positions.

OK, I feel like a bit of a dolt. If I am picking up what you are putting down you are saying that having defrost mode on turns the AC on? I never noticed this before, maybe because it was hot I noticed the cool air. Please confirm so I may give my license back to the DMV!. lol

defrost mode will engage the compressor whether or not the a/c button is switched on so the system can remove moisture from the air.

And that cold dry air is what quickly de-fogs the inside of the windshield. Any position that directs air to the windshield is considered a "defrost" mode, and as daddio stated, will engage the A/C compressor.

Thanks guys and I'm assuming that would be why I am losing an mpg per gallon or so leaving it in defrost mode.
duh....
I'm on my way to the dmv to give them back my truck keys and license....

I wired a Toggle (Kill Switch) inline on mine.
Saves Gas!
I only want that damn thing running when I'm hot
Not when I have a foggy windshield.
