Subject: 6 lug to 5 lug conversion IP: Logged
Message: I bought the rear end from the 89 Dakota Shelby for my 94. My first choice would be to just swap the carrier along with gears if that can be done...if not I'll have to swap the entire rear end. This would change my lugs from 6 to 5 in the rear. So, different wheels on front and back....or swap the front rotors.
So, I still have the factory wheel and actually plan to buy new rotors. I went to Autozone and checked for wheel bearings. Both the 94 and 89 use the same inner/outer bearings. This indicates to me the rotors are interchangeable.
Am I correct? If I go this route I think I only have to get a bastard U-Joint. This might also make more wheels available and for cheaper. Thoughts?

Message: I changed them on my 94. Using the earlier 5 lug rotor. The later spindle is a little longer. You have use a flat washer under the keyed washer on top of the bearing to compensate for the extra length. I have been running mine like that for 6 mo. with no problems.
