The gas gauge on my 95 dakota moves to a different spot when I start it. It shows empty one time then the next time full or half. Never the same. Thanks for any help.

Well, at least it doesn't go to empty, then go back up, then go back
to empty, then go back up again about 5 times every minute...
WITH the DING and the light coming on EVERY TIME... Sorry, lol...
had to vent, it's annoying.

Sometimes I've heard its simply an electrical problem between the
gauge and the fuel reader though. I just need to get the time to fix
mine...

could be the sending unit is going out. could also be the pump.

I replaced the sending unit once in my old 95 dakota. a few years later, my gas gauge started acting up like yours and i replaced it again but it didn't fix the issue. I swapped the pump and it worked again.

the sender is attached to the fuel pump. you have to pull the pump to replace the sender. Since you truck is a 95, you may want to just spend the extra cash and replace the pump which will have a new sending unit on it.
