 Subject: 89 Shelby rear end?

Will an 89 Shelby rear end bolt up in my 94 Dakota? I do know it's a 5 lug and not 6. Can I alsp swap the axles so I keep my 6 lugs all around?

is at least trying to do his own repair where as
all you would do is put your Dakota on blocks in
front of your hill billy trailor and call it
yard art. Go pop open another jug, you DUMB A$$!
Reapist, you would have to pull an axle from your
89 and the 94 and size them up plus count the
splines.

Yeah, I was thinking about that too. There's a couple of ways I could go. If everything fits I could just swap out the carrier and gears. Or, I could swap the entire axle. But, at $225 it would be hard to go wrong.
And Mike S probably doesn't realise that Shelby even made a Dakota. He probably thinks I want to put in a Mustang rear end. That what I'm thinking anyways.

the first gen Dakota was 87 - 90
Thats when the changed them up and made the front end longer so the V8 wood fit.
On the 89 & 90 Shelby when the put the V8 in it the had to use a electric fan and move some other things around to stuff it in there.
And thats why in 91 the changed it up so the V8 fit. and ended the first gen. of the Dak. and started Gen2 ....U FU KING DUMB A S S!!!

What other things did they move?
There were no '90 Shelby Dakotas.
Chrysler considers Gen 1's to be through 1996. It had the same body style. No major bumper-to-bumper changes were made til 1997. The Gen 1 had several changes through the years, but it's still basically the same truck.

Wow Mikey, you're just a wealth of information. You probably need to let Dodge know that my 94 is a 2nd gen so they can make thier necessarry corrections ASAP. Also, please post a pic of said 90 Shelby as I too have never heard of this beast.

The generation thing depends on who you are talking to. While Dodge figures like reapist, most enthusiasts consider the longer nose models made to accomodate the v8 another generation. Not worth calling peole names over...

The 89 Shelby had an 8.25" rear, the same as your 94. It's the same housing and the axle shafts are interchangeable.

Thanks Walt, that's the kind of info I was looking for. I've already picked up the rear as it looked the same. I'm hoping to just swap out the carrier and gears.......but it may even be easier to just swap the axles and put in the whole rear. I don't know for sure.
