I have a 1991 dakota 3.9/5 speed and am trying to replace the trans with a 1992 dakota trans that had a3.9/5speed.Is this a straight swap or what? Any info will help.Thank You in advance!

Speedo output on the tranny. Does your '91 have a mechanical speedo cable or is it electronic. I don't remember when they switched over, but it in the early 90's. If different, that's the only thing that'd need to be swapped out.

Do I get a clutch kit for a 1991 or 1992? The parts stores say there is a difference between the two sets although they can't tell me what it is. All helpful input is welcome.

Im not 100% but I think the spline count on the 91 is like 22 or 23 and the 1992 is only 10 splines so you would have to use the 92 clutch.

The splines have to match the input shaft on the tranny, so it's the kit for the '92.
