Subject: Blower Motor Resistor IP: Logged
Message: I had my fan on high the other day with the AC on. All of a sudden the fan seemed to automatically drop in speed. It seems to work at all settings but just not as high as before. I'm thinking its the resistor pack based on previous threads. Is this part available at auto stores or only from the dealer? Does anyone have a part number? Thx in advance.>>AJ

Message: had the resistor ( I believe anyway ) on my Durango go out. Turned off A/C switch and front blower stopped working. Back still works fine. Part was $12,50 at dealer. But it's a bear to replace. I'll just have the dealer do it when I take it in for other problems. Too old to scrunch up like a wadded up piece of paper to get to this thing. lol

Message: I checked this weekend to see if I can access the resistor and it seems pretty straight forward. 2 screws and it should drop out of the duct. I checked NAPA and they have the resistor for $14. I'm not sure I want to buy it from Dodge since they have had a lot of problems with this part. Unless that is the replacement is much better? So next step is to buy the part and then replace it. Thx for all's input.>>AJ

Message: They changed the way it is made ....the old one used resistor traces the new ons use real resistors and is a lot better .... when you get the new one you will see how much bigger it is. and be careful of Napa .... I was told that they had a lot of the old style in stock and they are trying to sell them out before selling the new ones ...

Message: I just had that problem a few months ago. I replaced it and it worked great until two days ago. Now it works some times and not other times. It always works 1 down from the highest setting though.
Stupid resister, this is like my 3rd - 4th one now.

Message: I picked up the part from NAPA today and it does have discrete resistors on it. Hopefully this will be the first and last time I change it. Hopefully its not a bi_ch to change. Thx to all for their insight and recommendations.>>AJ

Message: Forseti: Took a quick look at it when I bought it and noticed that it is fairly thick. It seemed to have windings covered in plastic protector and a single resistor at the end.

Message: AJ, All the above replys are dead wrong! Think
about it.... If you have all your speeds (even if
slower than normal) the resister pak must be
working.. You said at high (fastest) speed the
motor was running fine then it slowed down BUT
stayed in high speed. The resister pak has
nothing to do with the motors highest speed. It's
out of the picture all together when motor is
switched to high speed. It's running on the
systems FULL 12 volts.
My guess is, you have a loose or bad ground to
the motor. You *may* even have a dead alternator
or one that's not putting full voltage out. Yes,
thay *can* go bad in a heart beat.
Let us know what you end up finding...

Message: Changed the resistor pack this weekend. Didn't seem to cure the issue I have. Radioman seems to be right in that it wasnt the resistor. The fan speed seems okay but I doesnt go higher when I switch the AC to max. It stays at the same fan speed it was set at in the fresh air position. Could it be a vent issue? My alternator seems fine.

Message: I never had mine start working again, but I guess its possible if that particular resistor in the pack breaks connection and then after going over a bump it makes contact again. Check the resistor pack to see if one of the resistors looks burnt on the board. What year is your Dakota?
