Subject: tonneau covers? IP: Logged
Message: hey, im in the market to buy a new soft tonneau cover. I had a snap close one, but after 5 years of wisconsin weather, half the snaps have broken.
I was wondering, what type do you guys prefer? velcro, sewn in rail, flip lock, belt rail, ect. im just looking for one that will last, without breaking on me again, and will be able to work in all types of weather.

Message: I have an Extang FullTilt tonneau cover without snaps. I've had it about four years and never had any problems with it. Frankly, I've never had the cover off the frame because the frame and cover are designed to lift off the truck without any tools. It hinges behind the cab and lifts up on two gas struts. It also locks into place with a handle on each side. When I want to haul something large, I just unlock it, snap off the struts and lift it up and off. If I happen to be out and see something, I can always roll the cover up behind the cab and secure it with the attached velcro straps. Here is the link to Extang.

Message: first you should ask yourself, do you take it off much in cold weather (cold being less than 50). I had one on my old 95. I bought it when i was living in Indiana at the time. it was a pain to put back on when it was cold, it would shrink up.
I can't remember the model but it was an xtang with the plastic lip that you would push down and it would snap (kinda like j-shape) onto the rail which was clamped to the bed.
i have a fiberglass shell on my current dakota. If i got another soft i would get one that has multiple pieces of a gas shock on a hinge for ease of use in cold weather.

Message: Dan, you wouldn't have owned a 60's Buick convertible 20 years ago or so, would you?
