I have an 89 3.9L and I can barely drive 20km without the truck almost overheating. I've changed the thermostat and water pump and tried running without the thermostat and nothing seems to help. Theres no oil in the coolant or leaks. I hope someone can help me!

My guess it's time for a radiator flush or
replacement, Nathan30.

While the radiator is out of the truck do a block
flush.

BTW, it's never a good idea to remove the
thermostat either...

Seems he tried running without the thermostat to test for thermostat malfunction. No harm done.

I agree the radiator, or block needs to be flushed, or both. I have an 88 and my biggest problem is getting it warm in the winter. I only drive 2 miles to work though that doesn't seem to be enough time to get it fully warmed up, summer and its up to normal temp by the time I get home/work.
Good Luck

pick ups

in winter block off half the rad. with card board!
a cheap can of flat black paint to spray it
and you wont even see it through the grill

I'm guessing u checked one of the most obvious overheating causes, and that is a bad radiator cap. You could also have a blown head gasket. And you've already checked thermostat. Replacing the cap and then flushing the radiator if that doesn't solve the problem are the next steps, and the cheaper ones.
