Subject: 98 emissions Cal. vs.Fed IP: Logged
Message: Is there a difference between California and other states emissions systems on my 98 Dakota, or is the equipment the same for all states?

Message: Typically, it's the engine computer (pcm) that is calibrated differently. The hardware like the cat, etc are the same. As things have gotten more intricate, there's always a chance something will be different somehow, but historically, it's the computer.

Message: And on some years it's also exhaust system configration.
Some have exhaust merging into one catalytic converter, some have a converter on each exhaust tube before they merge, and some have a third converter after the merge.
