Subject: Parking Break & ABS Light On IP: Logged
Message: I own an '02 Dakota 5.9 R/T, and have read through several of these forums about this problem, and the consensus seemed to be that it is the rear speed sensor that is causing this problem. So I picked up a new rear speed sensor from my local dodge dealer and replaced it. I then disconnected the battery for 5 min, and $50, 30 min, and a dirty t-shirt later, I still have the same problem. My ABS and parking break lights are still on. I did do a test and my ABS is definitely not working, they locked up when I stood on them. Also, I am not having any problems with my speedometer (not before or after replacing the speed sensor). Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Matt

Message: if your speedo was working properly why did you change the RWSS sensor? the symptoms for a faulty RWSS are 1) ABS and BRAKE light on 2) speedo not working under about 30 mph.
you need to read the codes.

Message: I guess I don't know. A lot of the forums I read said that sensor was the reason those lights were on.
What do you mean by I need to read the codes?

Message: I had *close* to the same problem on my 02, Matt.
It ended up being a broken wire off the ign
switch. A 100% real b$tch to repair also I might
add. Seems the complete moron engineers for Dodge
didn't *think* about the extra wire needed when
there is tilt wheel.
Check things for power also. Does your heat/air
vent still work or is it stuck in defrost? No,
they are NOT vacuum controlled either.
Let us know what you finally find and good luck.

Message: So I tried to find an error code, by turning the key on and off as instructed, and all it says is "P done". There is no error code before that, it just has my mileage and then says "P done".
If it is in fact my ABS, how do I fix that? Is it just another sensor somewhere, or is it a physical part?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!

Message: I have a '00 Dakota. I got in my truck this morning and noticed my ABS light and my e-brake light are both on too. I'm open to ideas for resolving this issue. Guess I'll start at the top and get back to you guys if I figure this out. Please keep posting all ideas. I do appreciate the input.

Message: I have this same issue have had it for a few years.
Two things.
This is not part of the normal codes, the codes are stored in some ABS module. I took it to a stealership and they told me the module was reporting itself as bad and told me it would cost 504 dollars. My question to you on the boards is two parts.
1. Where is this ABS module located?
2. Is it a part I could get in a junkyard and just swap/replace?

Message: DakotaOwner99, stay away from that particular dealership! $504.00 is insane for changing that thing out. The part should run you under $100.00 brand new. I got it from my mechanic for ~ $80. I wouldn't encourage you to get it from the salvage lot. (at least that's what my mechanic said)
As for changing out the ABS sensor? It's easy. It's on your rear differential. If I recall correctly you have 2 brake lines connected to the bracket that holds your sensor in place. Remove the 2 screws holding everything in place and pop the sensor out of your differential by just giving it a few hard tugs. Once you get working on it you'll realize anybody with half a brain can change this thing out. --Good luck

Message: Well just got back from my mechanic's shop. He wasn't in but the shop manager was. I told him what happened, he took my truck to the back, hooked it up to the computer, came back and said, "the problem's not with your rear speed sensor, it's the front right sensor...BTW don't tell xxx(the boss)I just did that because we charge $90 to hook you up to the computers." A few phone calls later we were unable to locate a front right speed sensor intown. He gave me the part number so I could locate it on my own if I wanted. I'm gonna see if I can get it ordered sometime early next month and get this changed out myself.
