FUEL FILTER/PRESSURE REGULATOR
DESCRIPTION
A combination fuel filter and fuel pressure regulator is used on all engines. It is located on the top of the fuel pump module. A separate frame
mounted fuel filter is not used with any engine.
Both fuel filters (at bottom of fuel pump module and within fuel pressure regulator) are designed for extended service. They do not require normal scheduled maintenance. Filters should only be replaced if a diagnostic procedure indicates to do so.

That's why I spliced in a frame-mounted fuel filter.
See thread for a pic.

Stevej, you said,"A separate frame mounted fuel filter is not used with any engine" is incorrect,
I have an 88 and it used a frame mounted fuel filter from the factory, I think when they changed over to the Mag engine is when they put the fuel filter in the tank. I could be wrong on that though.

For the 3rd gen trucks. You have a POS 1st gen.

This should clear it up: That excerpt is from my 2004 Factory Service Manual CD.

That there is no factory frame-mounted fuel filter has been true for a long time now, but as you pointed out, is not true for the early model years.

Thanks for the correction. Next time I copy and paste this, I'll edit out the statement, or explain it better.

SteveJ, I wasn't trying to be an @ss, I was just giving some info that could have been over looked is all.

Texas Todd As for my POS 1st gen, well you are entitled to your opinion. I still like it though.

I thought SteveJ's answer was perfectly clear, as it was in answer to a specific question about an '02. That isn't TexasTodd; just an anonymous coward who has been spoofing him.
