Message: The light currently is not on but Ive been monitoring my oil pressure and the pressure gauge habits and was curious as to whether the light would illuminate if the pump was starting to go.

Message: to answer your question, No. there is no sensor that monitors oil pump function. if it fails the light will come on but, by then it will probably be too late. best way to check it if you doubt the gage on the dash is to hook up a mechanical gage to it.

Message: Chances are if u see low oil pressure on the elect. guage its just the sending unit dieing Not the pump
sending units dont seem to last anymore then 4 to 5 years
