I have an 03 Dakota QC with a 3.9L. I am getting a 3,300lbs boat/trailer in South Carolina. I know my tow rating with 3.55 gears is 4,400lbs but im not sure if the truck will handle I-75's hills through Georgia...much less pull it out of the water. What do you think? Will it be worth putting the superchips on the performance or tow mode with 91 octane?

just hook it up and go. It will pull it no problem. but don't expect to have normal acceleration when your towing. some people actually think their trucks can't handle it, because their trucks get bogged down a bit under a load.

I agree. My 01 3.9 5 speed pulls a 4000 lb boat/trailer package (dual axle trailer w/ surge brakes) okay. Boat stays in a slip, so I don't do it too often, but other than taking the slow vehicle lane on the highway, no problems. My main concern when I first did it was temp, but again no problems...

P.S. I'm in New England. No real big mountains, but very little flat either.

It will never handle it. Your POS V6er will puke its guts out trying to pull it. You need the 4.7l to handle it.

Why not change the superchips setting to tow mode? I know it requires premium.

Also, what about installing a transmission cooler.

I pulled a 6x12 uhaul trailer in my old 95 dakota before on NC state roads with hills. Braking can sometimes be tough, people don't think enough to allow room for a truck/trailer time to stop.
