OK, you young Dads - somebody help me out with baby seats.

I have an '02 V6 SLT Extended Cab. Usually, when we're headed out somewhere with the grandbaby, we're in the van which has a baby seat just about permanently mounted in the middle of the middle seats - no problem.

Saturday, we were headed out to breakfast with the grandbaby (just turned 2) and she wanted to go in the truck. Well, the truck doesn't have a baby seat, and I wasn't about to try and dismount the one from the van and move it over. The grandbaby cried like it was the end of the world, because she REALLY wanted to go in Paw-Paw's truck. Pathetic sight, really - her standing next to the door of the truck, with her little Mickey Mouse doll dragging on the ground, and crying her little eyes out with big ol' crocodile tears hitting the concrete.......

I'm now looking for something in the way of a baby seat that will: 1) fit in the back of the SLT, 2) be comfortable for the kid and not necessarily cheap, and 3) get me out of the doghouse with Grandma AND the kid! (Funny how many Grandpaws moth-eaten wallets open up for stuff for their grandchildren).

What's been your experience with baby seats in the rear of your SLTs? What to buy, and where to buy it?

Appreciate your help!

Get a child seat that can convert into a booster seat. For these, the 4 or 5 point harness of the child seat is removable and you now use it as a booster with the truck's shoulder belt. With one of these, you can use it from now until the child is of legal size/weight/age to go without any seat/booster. I have a quad cab and so space in the back is not a concern. Not sure about the space in the the club cab. But I don't think child seats come in too many sizes anyway; just belt options.

We have a girl almost 3, and after she outgrew the infant seat, I bought two forward-facing seats (we have 4 vehicles and I don't like to swap constantly). One goes in my 92 Dakota club cab. I have only a lap belt in the rear middle seat, but with the brass clip that comes with the seat, it is secure (I can rock the truck while tugging on the seat) and safe, and convenient. It's an Eddie Bauer Summit model, costs about $120, and has the 5-point harness, adapts to full seat belt going over it when the child is older, has a slide-out cupholder on one side, and armrests that fold up. Tilts to 4 positions. We love it. We got the seats at either Target or Babies R Us. I think it was Target.

I have two in my truck, just don't remember the brand. The kids are all grown and don't need them anymore. I just keep them in there for when I go out and pick up new "friends" on a weekend night.

Well, Bob -

I've looked high and low and I can't find the Summit model, although there's tons of other Eddie Bauer 3-in-1 convertibles for approximaely the price that you described, and that brand seems to get high marks in reviews. I'll go look for one of those, and see what I find. Thanks for the info!
