Subject: considering selling 5.2

Message:
Im considering selling my 1997 Dakota regular cab. This truck has just been completely gone through and everything has been fixed and is in top shape. The truck has 114,000 miles but the engine only has 2,000 miles on it. The engine is in the first month of a 36 month/unlimited milage warrenty. The clutch was replaced at the same time and has a life time warrenty as does the new starter. The ignition system is an MSD and new Moog ball joints were installed about 4000 miles ago. There are traction bars, a billet grill, a Viper alarm with starter shut-off and the sterio is an Alpine CD player with auxillary input and aftermarket Infinity 6.5" speakers and tweeters. It can be arranged to talk to the mechanic who did the engine work for serious inquiries. Im reluctant to get rid of this truck especially since it is running like a dream, but Im in need of a better work vehicle. This truck is more suited for tearing up pavement. Im also including a set of underdrive pullies I removed when the new engine was installed. I bought the truck for $4200 and have put about $6000 into it. Im asking $8500. I can email pictures to anyone who is interested.

I forgot to mention that I this winter was the first winter this truck has ever seen. Origionally a southern truck and garaged every other winter but this last.

Asking way to much for it. The 5.2 is junk, 4.7 is the only way to go. I would part it out if I were you.

I would beg to differ that the 5.2 is not junk. I have a '97 5.2
with 224,000 miles on it and it still has ALOT left in it. Sure the
4.7 might be newer and kick ass, but the 5.2 is just one of those
durable engines that just run forever (with the general DIY
maintenence). So, I wouldn't go as far as to saying "Junk"
because it's not, or else they wouldn't have kept the engine
design so long. Just like they will probably keep the 4.7 for a
while. Then again, they already made the 4.7 pop out 305
rather than the 230/260 it was doing normally. =/

Maybe a little pricey, however, you could probably get about
$6000 for it in the long run. Just guessing though. =/ This one
is up to you. Start high, get lower. Have fun!

I agree 100% with Ky_man. The 5.2 (318) was always
a great work horse. It was never suppose to be a
racing engine just a tried and true good all
around engine.

I've had a few 5.2's and now have a 02 with a 4.7.
Hands down the 5.2 has a lot more torque when it
comes to pulling my travel trailor.

Mind you, I like the 4.7 with its pep but it will
never *work* like the 5.2 did and still does.

That post is most likely from someone who has been spoofing TexasTodd to cause trouble - no need to start the usual 4.7/5.2 war here. For some of you used to the 5.2; you just need to understand the strength of the 4.7 is not to be afraid to let it rev when pulling, since it has better power than the 5.2 up top. Mine tows very well.
Bottom line - I think we all agree. The asking price for this truck is rather high.

Lead, follow, or get out of the way
