hey i did my bely pan twice on my 99 318 and on the second time i noticed a oil stain inside the manifold from the pcv hole down. now i know i did all the torque specs and still pining!!!!! ugh so i just bought a pcv canister to catch the oil.

ill let you guys know how it goes and did anybody have any expierience with one of these?

now whenever i clean the manifold (paper towel and hanger.. lol) it runs rely great milage is better and better throttle response. but when its sucking oil its just so sluggish i hate it! and that dreaded pinging under light throttle. makes me kringe.

so we will see.

thanks just thought this might help somebody.

ok i installed it today. i got the husky air compressor filter at home depot.

i gotta say that i noticed right away the pinging was going away. i was to lazy to clean the manifold again while i did this. so i just figured that i would let the rest of the oil in there just burn.

so its installed and from going a few times around the block i already got a noticeable amount of oil in the glass container.

as i drove it some more the pinging went away completely.
so as for all you with this oil in manifold, consider a pcv valve oil filter.

after doing the manifold gasket 2 times and 4 pcv valves later i did some reserch on this and it sounds like a common mod. especially for corvettes.

any other ?s ill be glad to answer.

About a year and a half ago, I did the same thing in conjuction with an intake mod on my 4.7L. See
http://dakotausa.com/vBulletin/showthread.php?t=34710
for some details and pics.

I've been putting all the oil it catches into a small plastig jug. It's caught almost half a quart of oil in the 15,000 miles since I installed it.

There's a couple reasons the engine does that, and both are poor design. The oil fill is plastic and sits up front in the air stream of the radiator fan. Not so bad once eveerything is up to temperature, but during the warm-up, all kind of condensation forms in the oil fill port and mixes with oil vapors getting sucked into the PCV valve, which just happens to be attached to the oil fill port. This emulsified oil then gets sucked through the PCV valve and into the intake manifold, where it pools in the bottom.

Here is a link to a web site that documents one owner's efforts to resolve the issue.
