Subject: Can ABS piping hold up in winter? IP: Logged
Message: I'm running a homebrewed intake system using 3" ABS piping. I'm wondering if the plastic can hold up to the temperatures in the winter months. ie: it's cold outside, you start up your truck with in minutes it's hot. Now going from cold to hot in such a quick time, could lead to failure in the plastic which would result in a crack.
Has anyone ran a ABS intake through the winter months before? without any problems?
Thanks in advance
Anthony

Message: ABS and PVC both hold up better to cold the they do to heat. If you think vibration is goin to be a problem heat and bend some aluminum or angle iron to make a support. You can join the abs or pvc to it useing strips of stainless steel wraped around the tubeing and joined to the brace. It is simalar to how fuel tanks are held in place to frame rails. If you do a good job and polish everthing it will look professional.

Message: Thanks Sandman,
Vibration isn't a problem with my intake. I've made a support near the filter to hold it in place. All I'm worried about, is it going to crack in the winter. I don't need to be suck in a cracked off piece of plastic into the motor. "Knock on wood"
