why run e-85? it is more expensive and you only get 80% of the performance (mpg) of regular gasoline.
plus, the more e-85 we use, the greater demand for corn, = higher food prices.
it is a stupid concept. food as fuel.

Message: Ethanol is bad stuff anyway. Don't put it in your engine unless you absolutely have to. Does not burn all that clean.

Message: It IS cost effective for the driver but only when subsidized by the government. Here it is 25% less than regular gas. The octane rating equals that of race gas.
It is not nearly stupid as sending your hard earned dollars to the Middle East and have it used to fund terrorism.
A one time use of E85 will not likely harm your vehicle but it may run like crap and get very poor gas mileage. You need a high compression engine to make effective use of alcohol.

Message: E85 causes a large drop in milage due to less BTU,s per gal. Therefor it costs the same or more mile per gallon than gasoline. E85 more readly combines to make smog than gasoline. E85 is inflationary -if you burn corn, you can,t eat it. The U.S. inports most of its oil from central and south america-not the mideast. The US should have built more nuke powerplants and new refinerys 15 years ago. Thank your greens for todays prices.

Super bee,
Don't run ethanol (e-85) in your diesel.
You need to run bio-diesel.

this thread is funnay
nothing i have siad in this thread i woudl ever consider
i know better than to run E-85, for mechanical and economical (both on a personal level) reasons.
i KNOW not to run e-85 in my cummins, and i dont think id run biod diesel made from anything but grease either, for the same economical reasons
