If you want to kill people, would you chose the Win94, Win100 or the AK? Don't forget, a real AK is fully automatic. That's where its "firepower" comes from not the cartridge.

If you only plan to snipe people, then why not choose the Win 100. As a matter of fact you can shoot a though bullet proof glass much better.

Not to mention that a 30/30 rifle can be shot just as fast as a simi automatic.

Ever watch the Rifle Man??

If the Win100 is that great how come the military doesn't know about? Do you really think any military would give up their AK's for Winchester 100's?

Neal Knox meant that video for really stupid people that know absolutely nothing about guns. It was a horrible job of comparing apples and oranges.

You wouldn't want to hunt with an AK and you wouldn't want cause massive damage on multiple targest with a Win 100.

Wrong! 1.Yes you can hunt with a AK (semi auto)
2.The reason why they don't use the .270 or 30/06 ammunition is because its more expensive.

3. One round of a .243 or .270 would take your leg off; again did you see what it did to the watermellon. Thats one bad @ss rifle! As a matter of fact you only need one large .30 cal round to drop a 300 lb deer.

I didn't say that it couldn't be used for hunting. I said that you would "WANT" to hunt with one. But, then there is no accounting for what some people do. You can use anything for "hunting" including a club.

An AK47 is never semi-auto. A look alike maybe, just as an m-16 is never semi-auto, but a ar-15 is. The anti-gun crowd is fond of calling anything that resembles an AK and AK-47.

.30 caliber is far from "large" and deer rarely weight more than 200 lbs.

As for the cost being too high I'm going to raise the BS flag on that one. If you had said, the ammo is too heavy and has too much recoil, I would begin to think that you knew what you are talking about. Those are the reasons most militaries use smaller cartridges, not cost. Trust me, I know what it is like to lug around a hundred rounds of 7.62 NATO while other guys carried a couple hundred rounds of 5.56 without breaking a sweat.

The .243 win is nothing but a necked down .308 win or in military terms a 7.62x51 NATO. The 270 win is necked down 30-06 or 7.62x63. Many of your hunting cartriges are derived from military cartridges.

The watermelons blew up impressively more due to the type of bullet used than the cartridge that fired it. You can get a varmit bullet for the AK look alike and do a very impressive job on a water melon. Try a Sierra 110gr HP, Hornady V-Max, or Berger 110gr.

Again, you would not want to use hunting type bullets or guns for killing people. They will do a fine job but when people start firing back with AK's I suggest you turn and run the other way as fast as you can. There is no substitute for firepower and hunting guns don't have it.

Don't you think when you got thousands of soilders out in the field using the 5.56 it would be a bit cheeper than a 7.62?????

I am a former Marine and I can say that you can put an M-16 on semi-auto or full auto, and there can be times when you only want to use semi-auto.
You can even put it on safety and not able to fire it at all. As for the AK-47, I have shot it before and it is a pretty good rifle, the choice of our enamies.
I think what it boils down to is what a man wants to use, and what he likes to shoot.

Is it cheaper to make? Yes it is. However, in the quanties used, it is not the determining factor. I think the Russians also have a 22 cal. version. Wound channels, hits on target and weights are the primary reasons for the move towards smaller calibres.

Most all of the cartridges would perform better in all catagories if they were about 6.5 mm.
