Message: Has anyone done their own windshield chip repair? If so, what product and tips do you have?
I have a chip in my avenger that I'd like to try repairing before paying for a new window.

Message: Typically those parts store repair kits do not provide enough suction to do your own repair. Glass shops with their big industrial tool will charge between $35-$75 (I know...big gap), but the results are good. I had a couple spots that were nickel size and when they were done it looked like (very) small flecks of something on the window. My insurance company even re-imbursed me when I provided the receipt. $0 deductable on glass is worth the small difference you pay. The Insurance company would much rather replace a windshield than your vehicle due to a collision caused by blindness. Change out your windshield every 3-4 years (or less) and you come out ahead...plus you aren't looking through the fine pits that accumulate over time. A pitted windshield in the morning or evening sun can be more dangerous than a dirty/ cracked one...especially when you cannot see what is in front of you, where the divider line is or that the signal light is no longer green.
Hope this helps.

I tried it once and yes it works but not well. Even professionally done they have distortion and headlight glare and after a while turn smoky colORED and never on the driver side. drive you nuts.

Message: When my windshield was chipped, I serendipitously stumbled upon a promotional advertisement for a local glass shop. "Free windshield chip repair." The chip remains visible, but in 6 years it hasn't spread into a crack.
So maybe you can find a shop with a similar promo? Or at least a good price. As long as the chip isn't in the center of your view, I'd personally try the fix before the replacement windshield (but then again I'm poor. Other bill has a good point about safety...)
Hey, other bill, what is your insurance company? I'd like to have that kind of coverage!

Message: Georgia doesn't have such a law. The chip is on the passenger side - places i called wouldn't repair if on drivers side or if over quarter in size.
I found a shop that did it for $50 (they came to my work) but it's crappy, i understand the crack won't totally go away. There are 3 lines that are visible but the hole wasn't even filled in all the way. I called them they said the hole should be completely filled and the shop is going come to my work tomorrow and fill in the hole completely.
they guarantee it won't crack further, if it does, they will credit me $50 toward installation of a new window they install.
