Subject: cost of rebuilt engine IP: Logged
Message: A rebuilt 318 with a three year warrenty installed for $3500, good deal? my other option is a used engine with 71,000 miles and a 1 year warrenty for $2300. Any thoughts?

Message: I'd choke out the $3500 if possible. Hedge your bets, go for longevity.

Message: I'de check with local machine shops firts before spending $3500 for that rebuilt. Few shops around me quoated $1500 for a stock rebuilt, which included .030 overbore. I can see $3500 for a performance version though.
Goodluck with what you do.

Message: You know, I would almost agree with Dak except I believe the $3500 also includes pulling the engine and dropping the new one in? If that's the case then the $3500 is probably about right depending on where you live.
I'm 30 miles north of Seattle and I'd expect to pay 5k to 6k for a performance engine to be dropped in. This would include aluminum heads.

Message: Yeah, I was looking at the total labor along with a fresher engine.
