My dad has a '97 Dakota he ordered new and he just now has 50,000 miles on it. It is a 5.2L AT 4x4. Yesterday we got over a foot of snow and when he came home, he had to four-wheel through the snow in our driveway. He decided to park it outside so he could clean the snow off of it before putting it in the garage. He shut it off and we cleaned it off for maybe 5 minutes. Then, he tried to start it and it wouldn't. It would crank, but wouldn't fire. We opened the hood, and looked around, but nothing seemed out of place except for it was kind of wet in the engine bay from the snow. So, he tried it twice more and it wouldn't start. So, he let it sit for a while and I just thought that maybe it wasn't in park or something and that safety switch wasn't letting it start, but they usually don't even let the engine crank correct? Anyway, he let it roll in neutral and tried to start it and it did start, but it was running rough like it was missing or something. He backed it into the garage and left it sit for hours. Then, I tried starting it later and it started fine and seemed to run fine. This morning he left for work and it started fine and ran fine.

So, could it have been just stuff getting wet under the hood? Anybody have this happen to them?

Thanks

Yup, wet wires or moisture in the distributor could cause that.
