Utah couple rescued after 12 days missing in deep snow

http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/02/07/utah.couple/index.html

highlights

A husband and wife who were stranded in heavy snow for 12 days were rescued in Utah when a snowplow driver happened upon them on a little-traveled canyon road, authorities said.

The couple from Kearns, in northern Utah, had taken a road trip to photograph wild horses. Their pickup got stuck in the snow on January 26.

They ripped the cushions out of their Dodge Dakota and used them as snow shoes -- something Thomas Garner, an Eagle Scout, said he saw on a television show about surviving in the wilderness.

I do believe that show would be survivor man. I saw that episode. He ripped cushion out of the truck and used wire he ripped out of the truck to tie the cushions around his feet.

And they say there's nothing good on TV anymore...

no, only dakota's get stuck.

Many people don't know/think to cover their feet with something like a seat cushion. Reads like that guy only knew because he saw it on TV. It helps keep feet warm and dry. Remember your fingers and toes are a major source of heat loss and are the first to be affected by frostbite.
